FAQ

How many treatments will I need?

A treatment course usually involves 5-10 weekly or bi-weekly appointments, depending on the nature of your condition. Chronic cases require several courses of treatment, while acute muscle sprains or cold/fever/flu conditions may only require one or two visits.

The initial assessment and treatment usually lasts about an hour and a half, while subsequent treatments usually last about an hour.

Can I claim treatments on my extended health plan?

Treatments with acupuncture are generally covered under your extended health care plan or can be claimed on your income, as a medical experience under ‘Registered Acupuncturist.’ Please check with your insurance carrier to confirm if you have coverage.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture is usually a comfortable treatment. Needles are very fine, metallic and as thin as a hair, making them painless upon insertion. Everyone experiences acupuncture differently, but most feel little pain as the needles are inserted. You may experience a mild aching sensation of warmth around the needle site. These sensations are generally considered favourable for the healing process.

What should I do before and after an acupuncture treatment?

Try to arrive rested and relaxed for your treatment. Eat a light meal prior to treatment, and avoid consuming caffeine or nicotine for 90 minutes before and afterwards. You should continue to take any prescribed medications on schedule.
